Rose Bay Curriculum conforms to the requirements of the Tasmanian Curriculum.
Mathematics, Society and History, Science and English will be following the Australian National Curriculum on behalf of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority. This will enable Rose Bay teachers to have a valuable input into the development of this project.
The subject choices made at the end of Grade 8 & Grade 9 are made within a framework for choice, which prevents serious imbalance. None the less, the school seeks to advise students on the basis of interest, performance, degree of difficulty and individuals developing plans for the future, as to appropriate choices.
Students need to ensure their subject selections enable them to record their progress and achievement across the full range of the Tasmanian Curriculum.
The Class Teacher plays a pivotal role in providing this advice, supported by the Grade Co-ordinators, Assistant Principals and Principal. It is also the policy of the school that parents and students are fully informed on these matters so that quality decisions can be made. The school timetable is designed to provide all students with a balanced program that includes their required subject allocations. It also endeavours to provide sufficient flexibility for students to participate in a wide range of other programs: these include; gifted and talented programs such as Music Tutorials, Band Rehearsals, literacy support, participation in camps and excursions, Student Representative Council activities and a wide range of alternative education programs.
The timetable includes a Grade Time Program for all grades. This is conducted alternate Thursdays as co-ordinated by Grade Co-ordinators. Whole school assemblies are also held on a fortnightly basis alternating with Home Group.
The timetable is a 10-day, two-week timetable consisting of 6 x 50 minute periods. 100 minute lessons occur regularly throughout the week in many subjects. Each day commences with a 15 minute Class Teacher Period to check attendance and pass on any information relevant for the day.
